The Arts in Paradise ARTIS Program
BALI - The Fabled Spice Island!
ARTIS Study Tours is excited to make available to artists and art lovers this truly
unique island adventure. Located in the Indian Ocean between Australia and Southeast Asia,
Bali is one of the Indonesian archipelago's most beautiful and culturally vibrant islands. World
renowned for its many arts and crafts, temples, shrines, folk dancing and fire walking, Bali is a
must-see for anyone interested in traditional cultures.
Hands-On Art Making
You will not only have the chance to do your own sketching and photography, but are invited
to study for free up to four hours each day in batik, mask carving, offering making or watercolor
with native Balinese working artists. While you are not required to participate in these classes,
we at ARTIS feel they are the highlight of the trip. The Balinese instructors are warm and
enthusiastic, speak English and work with students at all levels of proficiency.
This tour is a special opportunity for an insider’s view into this fascinating and complex
culture. The area we stay in, known as the Cultural Center, is home to many of Bali's most
famous artists, carvers, dancers and musicians. Our activities are designed to give you the
best possible access to a culture that is experiencing an artistic Golden Age. The program
includes participating in festivals and performances, visiting museums, galleries, temples and
other important sites, coupled with an opportunity to roll up your sleeves to study a traditional
craft under the guidance of skilled artists.
Participation on this wonderful Study Tour is limited, so please reserve your place early.
