The ARTIS Greece Program
We will not be offering our Greece program for the summer of 2010. We will offer the program again in 2011.
Art, Culture and the Cradle of Western Civilization
PELOPONNESE & DELPHI
For all you lovers of sunny classical civilizations, ARTIS is now offering a spirited 3 week Greek study program of Athens, Peloponnese, Delphi and the islands of Crete and Milos.
Enjoy free "on location" drawing instruction during the tour. Bring your sketch book and record your
own expressions of this beautiful land with the guidance of a ARTIS instructor. Or opt to spend
your free time shopping, relaxing and just taking in the local sites. We've custom made
this program to include famous classical, historical and artistic sites combined with
off-the-beaten-track mountain villages with an abundance of natural scenic areas.
THREE WEEK STUDY PROGRAM
This is a special "survey" tour of Greece. This program is designed for a group of students
and artists who will travel on a private coach and concentrates on giving you a real feel for
the culture and land of Greece by getting away from a mass-produced type of tour that
usually insulates you from the very people and places you came to see.
On the ARTIS three week Greece program you will explore the Peloponnese (the southern
part of the Greek mainland) along broken coasts, beaches, farms and mountains. Ancient
ruins are scattered everywhere, along with picturesque villages, olive groves and cypress
trees. You will eat at local tavernas with delicious Greek specialties and stay in small
traditional hotels. There will be stops all along the way to visit museums, monasteries,
ruins, seaside resorts, beaches, mountain villages and natural scenic areas. Much of the
time we will be traveling off the beaten tourist path. Our vehicle will be a modern German
coach with driver, guide and an ARTIS workshop instructor. This arrangement allows for the
kind of journey one would experience while driving one's own car but with added security,
convenience and help of travel professionals.
The tour starts in Athens. After everyone arrives after their flight, we will meet at our hotel to rest and get
acquainted or have free time to explore Athens. The following morning we head out of town for the Peloponnese.
After touring the Peloponnese and Delphi for we head off to the island of Crete. The final leg of the trip will be
the island of Milos for 3 days to swim, relax and make art. After our stay in Milos we will return to Athens and visit
the most important sites, plus allow ample free time to explore on your own.
Free ARTIS Workshops are offered with our Greek programs. You will be able to participate
in the drawing workshops conducted "on-location" at exciting points of interest along the
route. You do not need to be an artist or have any experience to try your hand at creating
art. The workshop is free and you are welcome to attend as much or as little of it as you wish.
Traveling with you will be a highly qualified guide which will provide you with interesting and
educational information about the historic things we will see during the tour. Your ARTIS
workshop instructor will offer artistic observations and insights as well!
